  What Blackboard® does

A single environment where teaching, learning, accessibility, and insight come together.

Blackboard® is the digital backbone for higher education, K-12, government and corporate learning — built around three commitments that institutions can plan around.

Predictability

Inclusion

Partnership

A vendor that listens. The global learning community of 150M+ users directly shapes the Blackboard® product roadmap — not the other way around.

  Why TMC

Global product. Local partner.

Blackboard® delivers the global platform, the support, the security patches and the product roadmap. TMC, as your authorised regional partner, delivers everything that has to happen locally to make the platform actually land.

One Arabic-speaking team. One named account manager. One time zone. One implementation accountability.

  • Four-stage migration playbook — discovery, mapping, pilot, full cutover with parallel running.
  • Arabic-first delivery — onboarding collateral, faculty training and learner-facing materials in Arabic and English.

  Frequently asked

Questions we hear from institutional leaders.

Direct answers — no marketing fog.

Is Blackboard® the same as Anthology?
Yes — and the brand has now returned to Blackboard®. In March 2026, the company became an independent entity, refocusing entirely on teaching and learning. The product portfolio (Blackboard® LMS, Ally®, Illuminate®, Evaluate®, Institutional Effectiveness) is unchanged and continues to be supported, developed and invested in.
How is Blackboard® different from Moodle, which is free?
Moodle is open-source, but the real cost sits in hosting, security patching, integrations, accessibility remediation and support staff. Blackboard® provides a single vendor-supported platform that includes AI Design Assistant, Content Designer, Course Conversion Tool, 24×7 support, native accessibility through Ally®, and a 30-year proven partnership. You pay for instructor efficiency, insights, and inclusivity.
We are already on Canvas or Brightspace. Why would we switch?
Canvas leads on market share but is recognised for a low rate of recent product innovation. Brightspace charges a price premium for AI, content and data features. Blackboard® includes those capabilities — AI Design Assistant, Advanced AI Assessment and Engagement, Content Designer, LMS reporting — as standard in the core licence. If you have not seen the new Blackboard® in the last 18 months, you have not seen Blackboard®.
Will Blackboard® work in Arabic and right-to-left text?
Yes. Blackboard® Learn is fully localised for Arabic with RTL interface support and Arabic content authoring. Ally® scans Arabic content for accessibility and generates alternative formats on demand. TMC provides Arabic-first onboarding, training collateral and regional support in your time zone.
How do we migrate from our existing LMS without losing course data?
Blackboard® provides a Course Conversion Tool with documented paths from Moodle, Canvas, D2L Brightspace and legacy systems. TMC runs a 4‑stage process: discovery, mapping, pilot migration, and full cutover with parallel running. No course data or gradebook history is lost.
How does Ally® help meet UAE Federal Law 29 on accessibility?
Ally® automatically scans every piece of course content — PDFs, slides, videos, web pages — flags accessibility issues and provides remediation guides for faculty. It generates alternative formats (audio, braille, translated) for students on demand. For MOHESR accreditation, Ally® delivers institution-wide accessibility reporting that maps directly to compliance evidence.
What support do we get from TMC vs Blackboard® directly?
Both. Blackboard® provides global product support: 24×7 administrator & end-user support, software updates, security patches, technical incident response. TMC, as your authorised regional partner, provides local implementation, faculty training in Arabic/English, integration with SIS, HRIS, Office 365, Microsoft Teams, ongoing customisation and a named account manager in your time zone.
What is included in the standard licence vs premium add-ons?
Standard licence includes: AI Design Assistant, mobile apps, Content Accessibility Checker, Course Conversion Tool, Lifelong Student Portfolio, Learning Outcomes Management, Content Designer, Advanced AI Assessment, 24×7 administrator support, LMS reporting.

Premium add-ons: Ally® (advanced), Adopt, Video Studio, Evaluate®, Milestone, TDM catalog, 24×7 user support, Course Design Services, Managed Services, Advanced Accessibility Services.
